Chapter Six

I shouldn’t be running.

Something deep-down screamed at me that I shouldn’t be running. That I should go back and face her and ask what she meant about replacing me, and what she knew about Llyr.

And why she was summoning demons or some shit!

I would have if she hadn’t been obviously talking to Lord Garrison. If they hadn't all been in on it. The image of Raven standing there, stripped bare by two thrusting men. Smoke in her hands as she talked about removing me was haunting. It propelled me down the halls as I ran to the only place I knew I could find Hywel.

My room.

It could be hours until he got there from whatever class he was in, but I would wait. Wait and come up with a plan.

I didn’t know what plan I would come up with, but it would be something effective. I would have to channel my inner Kai to get there.

The word rattled in my head and sent me off balance, I nearly fell on my face from the stabbing pain that was now rippling over everything.

Kai.

Gods, what I wouldn’t give to have Kai here. Kai would know what to do. He would know what to say and how to get the information out of them. It was what he had been raised as. Me? Pretty. Kai? Super awesome commander trained by sharks and jellies and a crotchety old octopus. He could solve any problem.

And he wasn’t here.

“I need you,” I whispered to no one, pushing the pain away as I reminded myself that Raven knew something. If Raven knew something that meant I was one step closer to freeing Kai.

Maybe she knew where Llyr was.

Only maybe I wouldn’t need him.

I pushed myself back into a run. Running one corner then another as I breezed toward my room and ran-- right into Caspian.

We both went down in a pile of limbs. Cursing and swearing he pushed and kicked me off of him, not even stopping when he realized who had sent him down to the ground.

“What? Were you masturbating your way through the halls and forgot to look up?” Caspian snapped, shooting another kick toward me, which I dodged. “You and your stupid cunt need to watch--”

He stopped, his expression going from pissed off asshole to slightly concerned but still pissed off asshole as fast as a flick of his ugly long tail.

“Zaniah? What’s wrong?”

“Like you care,” I was snarling, the words a hiss through my teeth as I pushed myself away from him and jumped to my feet. “Keep prowling for another throat to fuck, I’ve got places to be.”

I made to take two steps past him but was stopped when his hand wrapped around my arm, his dark chuckle right in my ear.

“You’re right, princess, I don’t care,” he hissed with a voice that was laced with poisonous ink. I shivered as his hand grew cold against my still burning flesh. “But you belong to me, and I like to make sure my charges are comfortable.
